Much more than driving a car for the first time, or reaching our 18th birthday unscathed, the first time we enter the world of vocational work is when most of us really grow up. It's the moment when the seductive mystery of independent ambition and creative success are at best, quickly diluted with a cold rush of realism, or at worst, extinguished altogether by power crazed superiors or short-sighted clients. But it's all too easy to be bleak about things, when the reality is that with the right attitude, the right ideas and the right contacts, it is always possible to design, make or include stunning things in your life. At Terry, we have spent the last year since Belfast's first Pop Up shop helping architects, designers and everyday people create, build, source and buy inspirational pieces of furniture. This email is the first of a few this year that will attempt to show you what people we know have been designing and what's been happening in our workshop. |

ISLE OF WHITE |
This is the beginning of a prototype for a very striking kitchen island designed by product designer Stephen Wolfe. Created to be finished in LG Hi-Macs, it will have a completely seamless finish with a distinctive and fully integrated 'stiletto heel' leg, perfect for filling with ice to chill wine bottles or water to display flowers. |

GOOD IMPRESSIONS |
There's a brilliant unpredictability with natural materials. This lamp shade was spun on top of a wooden base which happened to leave a very intricate and beautiful wood grain pattern on the metal. |

WATCH THE PAINTWORK |
It's not very often it happens, but there's a lot of bling in the workshop at the moment. This is thanks to sub-contract spray painting work we were granted to help fulfill an order for a major UK retailer. The main contractors are using our expansive premises to build a range of props for the new season in-store displays and we have just finished spray painting them all gold in our paint shop. |

ROCK UNSTEADY |
There's something beautiful about the gradual decay of this centenarian African rocking horse, but our restoration team will be giving him a new mane, new tail, new saddle and new lease of life this Autumn. |
